Have you tried the art of journaling before? If you did, what was your experience with it? If you have not, do not be worried about it.

In a world of distractions and noise that stops our focus and dreams, finding spaces for self-discovery can be difficult and tiring, yet in the midst of these, there are tools to discover yourself which is built inside of us. This is the habit of journaling.

Journaling is a simple act of putting down your thoughts, emotions, fears, to-dos, and journey which helps to harness self-exploration, and discovery through reflection.

How can journaling become part of your journey to self-discovery?

Unravel Your Thoughts and Emotions with Journaling

Journaling provides a safe and peaceful place to unravel the web of thoughts and emotions within us that hinder our progress and growth. This is done by writing down your innermost thoughts, and feelings unto a paper. This act can help you gain clarity and full knowledge of your true feelings and desires. Journaling allows us to discover the inner depths of emotional capacities, falls, and growth with honesty and authenticity.

Reflection of encounters

Journaling can give provide an avenue to reflect on the experiences and encounters you had in your life. Coming from meaning, lessons, and wisdom to guide your life, you will identify activities you did that went well and others that did not.

Reading whatever you have written on paper will guide your steps through the power of cognition. Assuming you have an emotional mastery journal, where you have to record your daily experiences on how you applied emotions, the negative effect of your actions towards emotional Babbage and positive effect, the cause leading you to that, triggers, and many more. At the end of each day, you are going to read through to advise yourself due to the thoughts and emotions you have release on paper. Therefore, whether you are in triumph, a problem, or a simple everyday event, an act of journaling will positively invite you to pause, ponder, and give in lessons from the stories you carry.

Setting Intentions and Goals right with Journaling

Journaling is not only for thoughts and emotions but also for your goals and your to-do list for the day, week, or month. I believe you have beautiful dreams and great intentions; it is a great experience to bring them into possibility with the help of journals. It is a powerful tool to set goals and intentions for your dreams and aspirations. Since I started journaling way back in 2016, I have a journal for each year regarding my goals. Journaling give us the way to break down goals into actionable steps which we can work on, adding monitoring tools like tracking our progress, and celebration of achievements as we pursue the challenges and opportunities in life. Whatever your objectives are journaling guides us to manifest our dreams into reality.

Building Gratitude

Journaling creates a space for building self-compassion and gratitude. In the journey of life, we might find ourselves in the web of self-doubt, impostor, and negative judgment, it serves as a companion to release all the pains and complaints. I always say, to complain too much to people and be known as a complaining guru, it will be great if you will pour out your heart onto a journal. This will help you to appreciate the level of pain and fears you have inside of you.  A Gratitude journal filled with prompts will propel an action of self-love and gratitude is a great way to forgive yourself and other too. In addition, you will be able to nurture a deep sense of acceptance, connection, and appreciation in life and build better relationships with people and yourself. Practice self-care with a journal, and nourish the minds and hearts of people with gratitude and compassion.

Types of Journaling you can use.

Now, that you know the essence of journals you can use them for your growth. In my experience, there are two main types of journal you can use.

·       Empty Notebook where you have access to fill everything by yourself.

·       Guided Journal is also known as a prompt journal, where you are provided with questions to guide you from the beginning such as self-awareness, and actionable activities. You fill in the answers asked inside a guided journal.
