Staying Strong: How to Maintain Motivation in the Face of Adversity

Motivation! Many people believe in motivation whilst others do not believe in it because they believe they don’t need motivation or all they need is discipline to push you through. But, today message I am not going to convince you which one is best and which one is wrong or worst argument going on. I am here to tell you about willpower or motivation.


Motivation is strongly needed to push our strong power or energy inside of us to keep on going or nourishing. We live in a world where we experience positive, negative, good, bad, smooth, and rough encounters if I have to list them all, it goes on and on. Life is filled with problems or circumstances that overwhelm us and stop us from being motivated.


“Being in darkness does not mean total failure but elevation place to the light”

This quote depicts motivation. Everyone needs motivation even if you dislike the word “motivation”. You need it to thrive in your dreams, over obstacles or adversity. Sometimes when you are working on your dreams, you are daring to achieve them, but something is missing: the willpower is missing, it encourages you to stop or pause on your dreams. You don’t feel like pushing further again. That is where willpower to overcome adversity comes in.


Before I continues with strategies to help you out, I would like to share areas you can find motivation in.


Where to find motivation in times of adversity

Motivations comes from different sources to encourage and convince you to keep going even when the going gets tough. You can find your inner energy in:


  • Yourself, where you see the improvement in your behavior or attitude now than your previous self.

  • Progress success in the project you are working on.

  • Stories of other people who are making it in life.

  • Happiness of others.

  • Happiness in yourself.

  • Testimonials or reviews from people you have assisted before.

These are a few to help you figure out your sources of motivation but you can find deeper from yourself and life.

 

Strategies to commence if you want to be motivated


Awareness of self


 I call this the first place of call if you want to be motivated enough to persevere in times of pain and adversity. It is awareness of yourself. What is going on around you is key in this step or strategy. Some people never get notice of the problems around them because they do not recognize them. Since they are not self-aware of what is going on around them. Even when they are faced with financial problems they don’t see it as a problem because they are not self-aware about the things they experience.

The most important step to being motivated is to know yourself and identify the challenges you face  and find ways to overcome it.


Concern about the realities of life.


People don’t put themselves to be motivated because they are caught in the web of all rousing. One thing life has taught me is that nothing we experience is smooth or rough. It is a mixture of both. You cannot experience everything all going your way; some days are good, and others are bad.

When the bad happens, does it mean life is rough or unfair? We have been taught to be happy in life, all situations must be great. The reality of life is, that not everything goes well our way, when that happens what will you do? Are you going to allow life to control your life? The realities of life teach that being motivated is your readiness to stand fast, and persevere the adversity to change things your way, breeding thoughts of hope to trust the process.


Connect with your purpose


Motivation can always remind us why we start in the first place and brings forth hope. In hard times, it sometimes becomes difficult to stay on course with your purposes in life that bring peace to us. We want to do anything to survive recommended by other people even if it does not move in life with goals and purpose in life. Our purpose and motivation is linked together if you stay on course with your purpose during times of pain you will be motivated because you know where you are going to reach there, which builds hope and determination to move far. Reconnect with your purpose and always in the love of goals to stay motivated.

It will be great if your write your dreams and the reason why are working on it in a journal like Win You Journal. You can write your soulful purpose, and your aspirations down. This will help you in times of obstacles because you will be able to reflect on all your dream ,an goals so you stay on course.


Ignite with your motivation


Before the strategies to help you to be motivated, I shared a list of sources of motivation. Yes, this is where need it again, revisit your source of motivation. What is your motivation booster? This boost reminds you when to keep on going when you are down. Someone's motivation is just to listen to an inspirational song, this just ignites the inner level to keep on nourishing.

I am mostly know for motivating people through my podcast, Elevate with Brigitte, my books, and social media. Some time ago, I paused for a while, and a fan who was enjoying my motivation contacted me, “Brigitte why have you stopped posting these motivation videos, it has helped me a lot ”. After the message, it motivated me to keep on going with what I was doing. Identify your motivational booster to keep moving during hard times.


 

Revisit your goals


What if I told you, your goals are too big? It is time to revisit your goals, which may it be too big to be achieved. Break it down into smaller tasks that can be done daily and monthly. Set milestones for each goal, this will serve as a motivator to encourage you and be determined on it. Aside from this, most people who set goals do not set contingency plans in case where adversity comes they can still achieve their dreams. When problems comes in the goals, plans get stuck nothing to convince them to work on it when things don’t go their way. Always have your goals in mind when you want to be motivated

 

Beautify the Problems


Sometimes, you have to see the beauty in the bad situations or obstacles. People who have mastered the mind and know its power they can use it profitably and understand the need to turn threats into opportunities.  When the mind is weak situation becomes a problem, turn problems into opportunities by seeing the beautiful side of the situation. Try to bring a solution on board by solving the problem, and learn from the lessons along the way during the difficult times. Rewire your mind, and stay strong and motivated during that process.
