Mentorship Strategies to guide you.

Define where you want to go

Before you can commence on the journey, there is a need to know where you are going or want to go. This is your purpose, and it will help you find the direction you want to be.

“ Knowing your direction is a great thing to find and do in your lifetime”.

Identify and clarify your destination, you must know the career path or life path you are embarking on before you select your mentor. What is your aspiration and what is your motive to be achieved through personal development?  Make the vision clear as it serves as your guiding star through the mentorship journey. Assuming you want to be like Elon Musk and you do not know what your vision and aspiration is, then I think that wish is created due to the pressure of the environment. Even if you have a clear vision, your mentor can assist you in redefining the vision and aligning it with the values and aspirations you strongly desire.

 Nurture Curiosity and Openness

The mindset is key on this journey. Be curious and open heart to do what you are told to do by the mentor. This is all about your willingness to embrace change and growth. There is great deal of opportunities around when you are working with one, open up your senses to grab and embrace the opportunity to learn from a mentor’s experience and ideas, and practice as you learn to gain the knowledge. Don’t keep in, ask questions if you feel you want to ask questions. Seek guidance and be receptive to the feedback provided. These practices in your learning process will foster continuous learning and a growth mindset will propel your growth to success.

 Embrace Challenges as Opportunities

Some time ago, when it came to identifying challenges as opportunities, it was not on my mind.  Now, I can do that because of my mindset and actions. I call this a superpower because when you can do that, you can change your world. Personal growth is attained when you can move from your comfort zone. Embracing challenges as opportunities leads to growth rather than preventing obstacles. It is all about experimenting and training the mind to help you turn challenges into opportunities. Your mentor can provide support and guidance as you navigate unfamiliar, unclear terrain of life, by helping you build confidence on the journey of finding your potentials.

Foster Authentic Connections in life

One of the opportunities for joining a mentorship programme is to build your professional development and connections. You will get the right connections in the network of people who can lead you along the way. This is about building and nurturing meaningful relationships. Mentorships foster authentic connections and synergies with people by developing trust, respect, and understanding with them, and in return will willingly bring knowledge, experiences, skills, and connections to you.  One strategy you can initiate is to share your vision and goals with them, which include your fears, and aspirations. True connections help to lay a strong foundation for a supportive and impactful mentorship relationship.

 Reflect and Pay it forward

Continually, reflect on your personal growth because you need it to assess your growth, improve, upgrade, and make changes to your personal growth. Always take time to reflect on your progress during the time with your mentor and the mentorship programme you embark on. Appreciate your successes and failures, and acknowledge areas for improvement and change. Ask questions about why things did not go your way. With this, they will provide you with valuable insights that can be changed, assisting you to correct your way to improve on your endeavor. Always communicate with them to add their contribution even after the end of your session with them.

Guess what, All the lessons and experience you have gained with your mentor. It is great to pay it forward to assist others, meaning you can also become a mentor in the lives of others. To do this, open your door when others come to you, and share your experiences, insights, story, and wisdom to help people who are beginning their journey similar to yours. This will move you into growth and evolve in your personal development and growth. Also, doing this will build an authority for yourself and the community at large. People around will know you as a key person or expert when they need insights in that area.

Conclusion

Are you ready to become a mentee to find your authentic self and work on yourself?
